The 6 Es of Leadership
Great leadership isn't a personality trait — it's a repeatable system. Here is the framework Dean uses to build leaders who can inspire, decide and empower.
Most founders are promoted into leadership by accident. You were the best operator, the business grew, and suddenly you're leading people instead of doing the work. The skills that got you here rarely carry you forward — leadership has to be learned deliberately.
The framework
Dean's leadership programme is built around the 6 Es: Engagement, Explanation, Expectation, Execution, Exceed, and Empower. Each one is a discipline you can practise.
Engagement — people give their best when they feel seen and connected to a mission bigger than the task in front of them. Explanation — clarity removes friction; a team that understands the why moves faster than one that only knows the what.
Expectation — set the standard explicitly, then hold it. Execution — leadership is judged on what actually ships, not on intentions. Exceed — build a culture where the target is a floor, not a ceiling. Empower — the ultimate goal: create more leaders, not more followers.
Master these and you stop being the bottleneck in your own business. You build a culture of leadership that scales without you in every decision.
